Spellcasting
Spellcasting. The Gravity Weaver is a 10th-level spellcaster. Its spellcasting ability is Intelligence (spell save DC 16, +8 to hit with spell attacks). The Gravity Weaver has the following spells prepared:
Cantrips (at will): *Mage Hand, Thorn Whip, Minor Illusion*
1st level (4 slots): *Mage Armor, Shield, Force Manipulation*
2nd level (3 slots): *Misty Step, Hold Person*
3rd level (3 slots): *Fly, Hunger of Hadar*
4th level (3 slots): *Greater Invisibility, Dimension Door*
5th level (2 slots): *Cone of Cold, Telekinesis*
6th level (1 slot): *Arcane Gate*
The Gravity Weaver often uses *Mage Armor* and *Shield* before combat to bolster its defenses. Additionally, it may employ *Greater Invisibility* at the start of an encounter to gain the upper hand on its opponents, allowing for a stealthy approach. The creature strategically uses its spells to manipulate the battlefield and disorient foes while maximizing its gravitational abilities.
Actions & Abilities
Multiattack: The Gravity Weaver makes two Claw attacks or one Warping Strike and one Claw attack.
Claw: – Melee Weapon Attack: +9 to hit, reach 10 ft., one target. – Hit: 2d8 + 4 slashing damage. On a hit, the target must succeed on a DC 15 Dexterity saving throw or have disadvantage on the next saving throw it makes before the end of its next turn.
Warping Strike: – Melee Weapon Attack: +9 to hit, reach 10 ft., one target. – Hit: 2d10 + 3 slashing damage. The target must succeed on a DC 15 Dexterity saving throw or become restrained by unnatural gravitational forces until the end of its next turn.
Gravitational Surge (Recharge 5-6): The Gravity Weaver unleashes a wave of gravitational energy in a 20-foot-radius sphere centered on a point within 60 feet. Each creature in that area must make a DC 16 Dexterity saving throw, taking 4d6 force damage on a failed save, or half as much on a successful one. Additionally, the affected creatures are pushed 10 feet away from (or towards) the center of the sphere (Gravity Weaver’s choice) and knocked prone on a failed save.
Gravity Bubble (Recharge 5-6): The Gravity Weaver creates a 10-foot-radius sphere of warped gravity at a point within 90 feet. Creatures within the sphere must make a DC 16 Strength saving throw. On a failure, their movement speed is halved, and they take 4d6 force damage at the start of their turns while inside the sphere. The sphere lasts until the end of the Gravity Weaver’s next turn.
Gravity Cloak: As a bonus action, the Gravity Weaver casts Levitate on itself. It can hover in place, making it difficult for melee attackers to reach it without additional mobility.
Gravitational Deflection: When the Gravity Weaver is hit by an attack, it can use its reaction to impose disadvantage on that attack roll as it momentarily distorts the air surrounding it.
Gravity Plunge: The Gravity Weaver makes one claw attack.
Projection of Force: The Gravity Weaver targets one creature it can see within 60 feet. The target must succeed on a DC 16 Wisdom saving throw or be frightened until the end of its next turn.
Scatter: The Gravity Weaver briefly creates illusory images of itself, becoming harder to hit. Until the end of its next turn, it gains advantage on saving throws against attacks.
Rippling Gravity: The Gravity Weaver can cause the ground in a 30-foot radius to ripple, forcing all creatures in that area to make a DC 16 Dexterity saving throw or be thrown prone.
Gravity Well: The Gravity Weaver creates a localized area of intense gravity. Choose a point within 120 feet; all creatures within a 10-foot radius of the chosen point must succeed on a DC 16 Strength saving throw or have their movement speed halved until the end of their next turn.
Warped Terrain: The Gravity Weaver can alter its lair’s terrain momentarily, making difficult terrain in a 20-foot radius. Any creature moving through this area must use double its movement speed and make a DC 16 Strength saving throw or be knocked prone.
Appearance
Standing an impressive 7 feet tall, the Gravity Weaver commands attention with its lithe, elongated form that blends elegance and danger. Its silhouette is almost ethereal, creating an unsettling air as it glides effortlessly above the ground, defying gravity with every movement. The creature’s overall posture is upright and confident, maintaining a balance that showcases both poise and readiness for action, making it seem as if it exists in a realm between solidity and mist.
Adorned in vibrant shades of deep purple and mesmerizing green, the skin of the Gravity Weaver shimmers like the night sky. Iridescent patterns ripple across its surface, creating the illusion of a constantly shimmering veil of starlight. This color palette not only captivates the eye but also enhances the creature’s haunting presence, making it appear both beautiful and foreboding.
The smooth outer layer of its skin has a silk-like texture, catching light at various angles to accentuate its ghostly appearance. This sleek quality allows it to merge with shadows, rendering the Gravity Weaver both a visual marvel and a master of stealth. Its face is a hauntingly smooth plane, entirely devoid of eyes, contributing to the unsettling impact of its presence. Instead, elongated tendrils emerge from the forehead, twisting and curling into void-like shapes that draw light into their depths. A faint, pulsing line suggests a hidden maw, capable of uttering sounds or magical incantations, though it remains enigmatic and rarely displayed.
Equipped with four long, elegant arms, the Gravity Weaver possesses remarkable dexterity and deadly grace. Each arm features elongated fingers tipped with sharp, claw-like appendages, optimizing it for both combat and the subtle manipulation of its environment. The absence of visible legs allows it to glide effortlessly through the air, navigating its surroundings with an uncanny ability that reinforces its otherworldly essence.
The tendrils sprouting from its head exhibit a bioluminescent glow, casting a dim light that leaves mesmerizing patterns in the surrounding area. As these tendrils stretch into the air, they allow brief apparitions of phantom creatures to materialize, enhancing the unsettling ambience that follows the Gravity Weaver. Localized bursts of energy crackle around it, generating waves of gravitational force that enhance its already formidable presence.
In movement, the Gravity Weaver displays a mesmerizing combination of rapid and erratic gestures, expertly dodging incoming attacks while delivering strikes with deadly precision. The dynamic nature of its movements evokes an air of unpredictability, keeping adversaries on edge. Each motion radiates confidence, forming a stark contrast to the eerie stillness of its posture when idle.
Notably, the edges of the Gravity Weaver’s form are adorned with iridescent patterns that ripple as if caught in a constant breeze. When it employs its extraordinary abilities, a faint halo of distorted light encircles it, leaving fleeting afterimages that create the illusion of multiple versions of itself, further enhancing its disorienting presence. This mesmerizing display not only accentuates the Gravity Weaver’s beauty but also highlights its elusive nature, making it a creature that is vividly defined yet shrouded in mystery.
Tactical Information
Behavior in Day-to-Day Life
In the twilight of its underground lair, the Gravity Weaver drifts gracefully amidst the shadows, ever vigilant and exuding an aura of unease. Its daily routine involves the meticulous study of the warped laws of magic and reality that define its existence. Acting as both guardian and curator of the arcane experiments that birthed it, the Gravity Weaver scours nearby ruins or ancient libraries, absorbing knowledge and energy from the remnants left behind by its creators. Driven by a deep need to understand its own being and purpose, the creature exhibits an insatiable curiosity which it mingles with a hint of melancholy; the realization of its own origin lingers like a specter.
Socially, the Gravity Weaver is solitary, preferring to interact only with the remnants of the necromancers’ experiments—animating the lesser ones to serve as guardians or to harness them for extracting essence from unwary adventurers. Its temperament is a blend of cunning intelligence and reclusive grace, revealing a creature torn between its desire for companionship and its instinctual creativity as a hunter. The Gravity Weaver typically stalks its prey, studying their movements from the shadows. It does not eat in the conventional sense; rather, it absorbs the life force of the creatures it defeats, “feeding” on their energy and leaving behind hollow shells.
Combat Behavior
When the Gravity Weaver senses intruders encroaching upon its territory, its combat style reflects its cunning and mastery over gravity. Concealing its presence, it observes from the shadows, measuring the opponents’ strength and weaknesses. Upon initiating combat, it employs its Gravity Cloak to float above the battlefield, striking fear into the hearts of adventurers with an ethereal flourish. The Gravitational Surge comes into play, creating chaos among enemy ranks. It revels in the disarray, pushing opponents into each other or toward hazardous terrain, while enjoying the spectacle of their confusion.
Once foes begin to lose their bearing, the Gravity Weaver darts in with its Warping Strike, calculating the best time to impose disadvantage on its target’s next saving throw, ensuring that they succumb to its gravitational manipulation. It targets spellcasters first, focusing its ire on those capable of countering its abilities.
If the fight turns against it—perhaps they launch a coordinated attack or overwhelm it with sheer numbers—the Gravity Weaver relies on its Gravity Bubble to create a sanctuary of distortion, hindering its pursuers while enabling it to escape. Should retreat become impossible, it hastily deploys Projection of Force to instill fear and sow disarray among groups attempting to corner it, crafting illusory images with Scatter to become harder to hit while launching retaliatory strikes. The creature blends fluid evasiveness with aggressive tactics, ensuring that it is hardly ever caught flatfooted.
Roleplay/Narrative Interactions
In non-combat encounters, the Gravity Weaver is an enigma, mirroring the profound confusion its abilities cause. Should adventurers wish to parley rather than fight, they may initially be met with an eerie silence, as the Gravity Weaver contemplates their presence with keen curiosity. It may respond to threats with unsettling laughter, its voice like the reverberation of distant stars or the echo of a fractured reality, hinting at both intelligence and madness.
The Gravity Weaver typically communicates through deep, resonant thoughts projected into the minds of its interlocutors rather than with spoken words, sharing fragmented insights about existential quandaries—taunts surrounding the nature of their being and the futility of their understanding of magic. Its motivations might shift depending on how adventurers approach it; if they show reverence for the knowledge of magic and a genuine desire to understand it, the creature could pause its hostility, acting as an uncertain guide into arcane mysteries instead.
Should adventurers attempt diplomacy or offer bribes, the Gravity Weaver would be inclined to consider such propositions, enthralled by the prospect of knowledge or objects infused with magic. However, it is also deceptive and likely to twist any deal to its advantage, seeking to ensnare the unwary. If cornered, it would exhibit surprising agility, rising above its enemies using its Gravity Cloak to escape rather than engage further, leaving behind only a swirl of dim, shifting light.
Thus, the Gravity Weaver serves not just as an adversary but as a twisting scaffolding of thought—a creature that draws adventurers into the depths of its psychic web, entangling them in the complexities of its existence, whether they seek to destroy or understand it.
